About IP Ratings

The format of an Ingress Protection rating takes form: IPXX

The first number relates to dust protection, 6 is the highest, X means it hasn’t been certified for dust protection.

The second number relates to water protection, 7 is the highest, 6 means it is able to be submerged for 30 minutes up to a depth of 1 metre (approx 3 feet).

Best Speakers for All Occasions

Chоosing the Best Bluеtооth Speakers for the Beach

To choose each Bluetooth speaker, we take into account:

  • Sound quality: What’s the bass like, will it be loud enough for a beach party?
  • Portability: Is it small and light enough to take with you anywhere?
  • Ingress Protection: Is it waterproof? (Duh!)

Here’s my list of Best 7 Speakers for the Beach.

1. JBL Chаrgе 3

Capable of connecting to three mobile devices at one time and with more than 20 hours of battery life on a single charge, the waterproof JBL Charge 3 is well worth a look.

Rated IPX7, you can rest comfortable that the Charge 3 can be used at the beach or a near a pool without worrying about accidentally frying the speaker!

The IP rating itself allows the Charge 3 to be fully submerged in a meter of water for up to 30 minutes without damage.

In other words, it’ll survive an accidental drop in the sea… but don’t leave it there!

Features

  • You can connect up to 3 devices simultaneously allowing multiple DJs to control the tunes!
  • 20 hours of continuous playback.
  • Built-in USB port in case you need an emergency charge for your phone.
  • IPX7 waterproof rating.

2. UE Roll 2

There are portable bluetooth speakers and then there’s the UE Roll 2. At a mere .73 pounds (340g) it’s lighter than a can of soda!

The UE Roll 2 is small… it’s TINY! The best thing is the small size doesn’t hinder it’s audio quality at all.

Ultimate Ears takes the Roll 2 up a notch from the previous version with a wireless range that extends to almost 100 feet.

Features

  • It’s super loud, 15% louder than the original!
  • A handy bungee cord to strap it or hang it anywhere you need to… (it’s perfect for camping as well as the beach!)
  • IPX7 rated, it can handle itself in the water.
  • 100 feet range for bluetooth.
  • 9 hours of playtime

What others are saying:

This is by far one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. First off, the fact that this speaker is waterproof is a game-changer. I love to listen to music while I’m in the shower and before buying this I could never really do that since I had to leave my speaker outside the shower and the noise from the showerhead canceled out most of the music.

3. Braven 105

The Braven 105 uses the same circular design as the UE Roll 2 and JBL Clip 2.

That’s not bad a thing, it’s a proven design that provides 360º sound to everyone so there aren’t any ‘black spots’ at the party.

This is another speaker with an IPX7 rating  – so it’s been tested to survive underwater up to 1m for 30 minutes. So it’s pretty pool and beach friendly.

Size is the big factor here, Braven have specifically designed the 105 to be pocketable, so it’s ready to go whenever you are.

And with 8 hours of playtime, this is going to be a great shout for BBQs and parties.

Features

  • Certified IPX7 waterproof rating
  • Ultra compact, pocketable design.
  • Provides 8 hours of continuous playback.

What others are saying:

It’s difficult not to be impressed by this little bluetooth speaker. It is very well designed and built, waterproof, and sounds great for what it is.

Bluetooth connectivity has worked perfectly and it seems like it plays forever before needing to be recharged.

4. FUGOO Sport XL

Most of the speakers on this list are tough… but this might be the toughest speaker.

A true rugged designs makes it suitable for many outdoor activities including hiking, camping, walking as well as the occasional beach party.

Even with a more traditional speaker design, it provides 360º sound with the clever placement of its eight speakers.

What’s the killer feature? A HUGE 35 hour battery life. This is the one you want if you’re planning a lot of time away from a power socket!

It even integrates with Google Assistant and Apple’s Siri so you have truly hands-free operation of the speaker.

Features

  • 100% waterproof: IP67 rated. Making it dust, mud and shockproof too!
  • BONUS: Comes with a portable powerbank as an extra!

What others are saying:

Fugoo, Oooo Oooo! This thing rocks. Love to have it outside with me on my private patio. I link it to my iPad Pro and watch Netflix all day.

This speaker never backs down on the bass and the treble notes are crisp and clear. Good quality.

5. UE Boom 2

If you’re needing a speaker with a bit more oomph than the Roll 2 – look no further than its bigger brother, the UE Boom 2.

The Boom 2 packs a lot of sound into a very portable body. The speaker is only 7 inches tall so you can throw it in any backpack or even a handbag!

The big change from the original UE Boom and the Boom 2 is that it’s louder and now fully IPX7 waterproof instead of splashproof.

Like with the Roll 2, the Boom 2 has an impressive 100ft range.

Features

  • Connect up to 8 bluetooth devices to the speaker – so everyone can be the DJ!
  • Waterproof, shockproof – take it on any adventure you have planned.
  • 15 hour battery life.
  • On-speaker controls to play, pause and skip tracks.
  • Use the UE Boom app to pair over 100 additional speakers and update the device.

What others are saying:

Love this! Great sound from such a tiny speaker. It is very portable and bluetooth ranges throughout the house. I enjoy turning it on and off from the app on my phone. The app also has a great feature where 3 different people were on the speaker at once and could take turns playing songs from their own phones.

6. JBL Clip 2 Speaker

The JBL Clip 2 is a direct competitor with UE’s Roll 2, selling at a slightly lower price point and featuring a similar design.

The Clip 2 has a slightly smaller audio driver (40mm vs. 51mm) so it’s going to be a bit quieter than the Roll. The bass on the clip is also a bit weaker as it doesn’t go as low as the UE roll.

So if you’re after a decent, cheaper UE Roll alternative, the Clip 2 is your best choice.

Fеаturеѕ

  • Connect an additional Clip 2 speaker for twice the fun
  • Integrated aux cable (can’t be detached)
  • IPX7 waterproof rating.

What others are saying:

I absolutely love this speaker. It was surprisingly smaller than I had originally thought, but boy does it pack a punch. I’m not an expert on speakers and such, but the JBL Clip 2 is exceeds my expectations.

The design feels professional and slick. It’s water proof, so I tried showering with it and it definitely proved itself. Although I probably wouldn’t do it again any time soon since I’m still scared of water getting in there and messing it up. It can get loud for it’s small size.

I would get this if you want something small and portable, but also durable, water proof, and decently loud

7. BRAVEN BRV-XXL Lаrgе Pоrtаblе Wіrеlеѕѕ Bluеtооth Sреаkеr

The Braven XXLis a tough as it looks! It’s waterproof, sandproof, dustproof… probably even bombproof! (Probably not, but you get the idea!)

The killer feature of this speaker is that it features a 15,000 mAh battery to charge your other devices so you never run out of juice!

Four tweeters and one subwoofer keep the music pumping for up to 14 hours of playtime.

It’s less portable that the others as it’s quite heavy… at 18 pounds!

But that’s to be expected of such a tough speaker! Plus an included shoulder strap makes it easier to carry around!

Fеаturеѕ

  • 33 feet wireless range – so don’t go too far from this speaker!
  • Huge sound from 4 HD audio drivers and 1 dedicated subwoofer.
  • Built-in 15,000 mAh battery pack to charge your phone several times.
  • Carrying strap has a built-in bottle opener – perfect for parties and beach meet-ups
  • It even has a mic input so you can use it as a mini PA

What оthеrѕ are saying:

LOUD! Loud enough to use in lieu of a full sound system on my small boat. Can clearly hear the music while running. Works even better when place in a somewhat enclosed area (bed of truck).

Will blast out picnic with no problem. Great sound quality deep base and clear highs, both have easy adjustment settings.
